  • Introduction

    Grade 80 Alloy Steel Construction

Grade 80 Binder Chain (USA) is manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel. According to NACM Welded Steel Chain Specifications, Grade 80 Alloy Chain is classified as an alloy chain intended for demanding service applications requiring higher working load limits than carbon steel transport chains.

The chain is commonly used in cargo restraint systems, heavy equipment transportation, flatbed trailer securement, and industrial transport operations where controlled chain tension is required.

    NACM Grade 80 Mechanical Requirements

The mechanical properties of Grade 80 Alloy Chain are defined in NACM Table IV. The specification establishes minimum working load limits, proof test loads, and minimum breaking forces for each chain size.

    For example:

    1. 1/4" chain has a Working Load Limit of 4,500 lbs.

    2. 3/8" chain has a Working Load Limit of 10,600 lbs.

    3. 1/2" chain has a Working Load Limit of 15,000 lbs.

Mechanical performance increases with chain diameter according to the requirements specified in Table IV.

    Heat Treatment Process

NACM identifies Grade 80 as an alloy chain manufactured in a heat-treated condition. Heat treatment is applied after chain production to achieve the mechanical properties required by the specification.

The specification requires proof testing and breaking force verification to confirm compliance with the published performance requirements.

    Fully Assembled Binder Chain Configuration

Grade 80 Binder Chain (USA) is supplied as a complete assembly with transport hooks installed at both ends. The assembly is designed for direct connection to ratchet binders, lever binders, trailer anchor points, and cargo securement systems.

    The assembly configuration provides:

        Chain restraint connection

        Transport load securement

        Binder compatibility

        Trailer anchor engagement

    Application Limitation

Grade 80 Binder Chain (USA) is intended for cargo restraint and transport securement applications.

NACM specifies that only chains specifically designated for overhead lifting should be used in overhead lifting service. Transport restraint assemblies should not be used for suspended load lifting operations.
